N-am rezistat şi am scris acum o lună o scrisoare la ministerele de externe ale ţărilor participante la Centrul Comun de Vize. Iată răspunsul:

 

Dear Mr. Ion Grosu, 

With reference to your electronic letter, we would like to thank you for the interest in the work of the Common Application Center. We are grateful for pondering over and for the appreciation given to its work. 

We would also like to inform you that the correct name of the center is Common Application Center. The given name is used by both Moldovan and EU officials and currently the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary in the Republic of Moldova doesn’t intend to change it. 

At the same time, we would like to pay your attention to the fact that the abbreviation CAC stands for many organization and associations in Romanian as (Court of Appeal of Chisinau, CAC indexes in economy, Association of canine handlers of Romania, etc).

thank you for your reply. It's a pity that your institution doesn't intend to change its domain name. It remains insulting and to a certain degree funny. I recommend you asking any 10 native speakers outside your organization about it and then may be you could change your mind.

 

Regarding the arguments in your letter  - they are wrong. 

 

Curtea de Apel din Chisinau's acronym is CA Chisinau and never CAC. Please check these links - (Magistrature Council newsmoldova timpul moldova.org)

 

The economy index comes from French Cotation Assistée en Continu and like many other foreign names can't be changed.

 

The same is available for Asociatia Chinologica din Romania (A.Ch.R.) the body that organizes official competitions for dogs in Romania. The use of CAC in their events comes also from French - Certificat d'Aptitude au Championnat.

 

I knew that CAC.md comes from Common Application Center, but since it's targeted towards a Moldovan/Romanian speaking public, the choice of domain is very unfortunate. It's your choice to keep it, but I don't think it helps to build a good image.

Puţin probabil că vor schimba domain-ul. Într-adevar au trecut cativa ani si lumea s-a deprins. Ar fi fost bine să reacţionăm imediat după lansare...

 

Am pus şi un sondaj alături pentru că am impresia că sunt singurul deranjat de acest fapt.
